Currants can be found in many German gardens because all kinds of delicacies can be made from the delicious berries. Originally there were only red and black berries, which were harvested in different varieties, but more and more bushes with white berries can be found in domestic gardens. You have numerous varieties to choose from.

currants, bot. Ribes are a genus of the gooseberry family (Grossulariaceae). The red and black currants (bot, Ribes rubrum and Ribes nigrum) are separate genera of Ribes. White currants are not a separate genus, but only a color variant of the red currant. However, just like the red and black berries, there are also different varieties of the white ones.
tip: Currants are known for their sour taste. There are now also currant varieties that taste sweet.
