Apples are the favorite fruit of the Germans. They are tasty, healthy and can be made into refreshing apple juice. Do you absolutely need a juicer to juice the apples or are there alternatives?

In a nutshell

  • Apple juice can also be produced without a juicer or fruit press
  • Juicing is even possible in a saucepan
  • Peeling not absolutely necessary
  • Fallen apples and specimens with small damaged areas can be perfectly processed into juice
  • The shelf life of the apple juice can be extended by preserving it

Juicing apples

If you have an apple tree in your garden, you have to be quick in the fall. While some apple varieties need to be eaten immediately, long-life varieties can be stored over the winter. Pay attention to careful picking and careful storage afterwards.

But what about the fallen apples or those that cannot be stored due to a small damaged area? You can process the healthy fruit into applesauce, compote, jam or juice. Have you ever tried juicing the apples? In this way, even the fallen fruit can be used almost completely.

Fallen fruit is ideal for juicing.

There are various options for apple juice production. Specialist shops offer a wide range of fruit presses and steam juicers, and even if you don't have a juicer or press, you don't have to do without the juice. We show how juicing can be done without professional equipment.

The pot juicing

Juicing in the saucepan is a clever way of processing the apple harvest. This only requires kitchen appliances that are found in every household. However, this method is only suitable for small quantities.

Tools and ingredients required

  • two kilograms of apples
  • saucepan with lid
  • strainer
  • Linen or cotton cloth
  • heat-resistant bowl
  • bottles for bottling

manual: How to juice apples without a juicer

First, bring the cut apple pieces to a boil in the pot.
  1. Wash the apples thoroughly. Quarter them and cut out any damaged areas. Peeling and core removal is not required.
  2. Place the apple pieces in a large saucepan.
  3. Add enough water to keep the apples from burning. About a third of the pot height is sufficient.
  4. Cover the pot with a lid and let the apple pieces cook for twenty minutes.
  5. Spread the linen cloth over the strainer and place it over the bowl.
  6. Fill in the apple mixture.
  7. First, allow juice to drip through the cloth and strainer into the bowl.
  8. Squeeze the leftovers through the cloth.
  9. Fill the obtained juice into bottles and keep them in the fridge.

Notice: The apple juice dripping through the cloth is clear. If you press the leftovers through the linen cloth, small fruit particles will also get through, resulting in naturally cloudy juice.

preserve juice

The juice obtained from pot juicing can only be kept in the refrigerator for a few days. If you want to enjoy the refreshing drink over a longer period of time, you can preserve it.

Instructions: How to extend the shelf life of the juice

Use bottles that can be closed well and tightly.
  1. Thoroughly clean the bottles.
  2. Boil the obtained juice for about ten minutes.
  3. Rinse the bottles with hot water.
  4. Pour the juice into the still warm bottles.
  5. Close the bottles with a lid. Make sure they are sealed airtight.
  6. Place the cooled bottles in a cool, dark place.

Notice: Heating the apples during juicing and canning destroys some of the vitamins. Nevertheless, the juice of the fruit from your own garden is rich in healthy ingredients.

Regional apple acceptance points

In many regions it is possible to bring apples to professional acceptance points and receive delicious juice in return. This barter is a chance for a healthy, refreshing drink. However, it is not your apples whose juice you buy, but a mixture of contributions from different customers. The advantage is that the vitamins are better preserved during cold juicing and that large quantities can also be processed.
