If you want to have a well drilled, you have to reckon with certain costs. This guide gives you all the information you need about the prices for digging a well on your property.

Cost: ramming well
If you have decided to have a well drilled, you have three options to choose from. The simplest variant is the ramming or percussion well. It is used when you primarily use the groundwater for watering or for other purposes in the garden. Ramming wells pump water from a depth of up to seven meters. This means that 600 to 1,000 liters can be pumped per hour. Rammed wells are only possible if the soil on your property is not compacted or completely interspersed with stones and roots. Ideally, the sediment is loose or well structured.

Due to the simple process, a ramming well is hardly offered by specialist companies, since it can be completely implemented by yourself. All you need is a well impact device that you can rent for around 50 euros per day. However, you usually do not need the device for more than one day.

The material costs include the following items:

The hole is covered with the pipes and the hose conveys the water upwards. The material costs amount to 15 to 20 euros per meter. If you have to pump the water from 7 meters, it will cost you 105 to 140 euros.
pump
Depending on the quality, design and flow rate, the purchase costs for a handle pump are between 50 and 200 euros. Together with the material costs and the rental fee for the ram, you can determine the total costs:
- Drilling costs: 50 euros (for device)
- Material costs: 105 to 140 euros
- Pump: 50 to 200 euros
- Total costs: 205 to 390 euros
Tip: To ensure that the handle pump does not break down over the winter, you must drain it completely. This will prevent any residual water from freezing and expanding in the pump.
Costs: domestic waterworks drilled well
If the well is to supply the household with additional water, a domestic waterworks is required. It is significantly more powerful than handle pumps, but they are also only suitable for depths of up to seven or eight meters. The groundwater pumped via the house waterworks is fed into the water supply of the house. For this reason, they are not used exclusively for the garden. Flow rates of up to 6,000 liters are possible.
Notice: Water from a well is not immediately suitable for drinking. So you have to prepare it first.

In order to have a well drilled, you must contact a specialist company who will set a meter price. This includes:

The cost of the pump varies widely compared to the cost of materials and labor. The purchase price for the domestic waterworks depends on both the flow rate and the range of functions, e.g. B. a leak protection or thermal protection switch. Calculate between 150 and 300 euros for an effective pump. With the cost items already mentioned, you pay the following amount for the fountain:

Cost: Deep Well
If the groundwater cannot be reached through a rammed well or a domestic waterworks, a deep well is necessary. Deep wells are drilled the same way as domestic waterworks bore wells, except the bore is a lot deeper. As a rule, they are used from a depth of 8 meters. Since you will need a powerful pump for them, these are often used as an alternative to a domestic waterworks. Depending on the model, between 6,000 and 20,000 liters are pumped per hour.

The drilling costs for the meter include the same services as described above for a drilled well for a domestic water system. They amount to 120 to 200 euros per meter, depending on the following factors:

Compared to the drilled well, the material costs for a deep well are significantly higher, since you have to drill deeper. For this reason, the piping must be more robust to prevent breaks or cracks. The average material prices are around 20 euros per meter. The higher price enables the well to be used for many years without the risk of the pipe breaking.

For this type of well you need a so-called deep well pump. The biggest cost factor with these is the flow rate. The more water you want to pump over the period of one hour, the more expensive the device is. On average, you have to reckon with a price of 150 to 400 euros if the delivery volume is 5,000 to 6,000 liters. Pumps with a flow rate of more than 15,000 liters, which are required for large houses, can be expected to cost at least 1,000. If you want to have such a well (depth: 15 meters) drilled, you have to calculate with the following total costs:
- Drilling costs: 300 to 3,000 euros
- Material costs: 300 euros
- Pump (6,000 l/h): 150 to 400 euros

Is there a fee for the permit?If you want to drill a well, you will have to pay a permit fee. How high this is is prescribed by the water authority of the city or municipality where you live. What are the follow-up costs?The follow-up costs primarily include the operating costs for the water pump (not for handle pumps) and the domestic waterworks. How expensive are dug wells?Shaft wells are significantly more expensive than the other variants due to the extremely high material and labor costs. You have to reckon with at least 4,000 to 5,000 euros. But that is only the lower limit. Dug wells are only worthwhile for this reason if a reservoir is required at the same time that will be used over several generations.
